Honesty compels me...
Tim Sanders did a very credible job of surveying (the hard way, apparently) the Broadband Wireless Internet Access industry to try to document the Top U.S. Broadband Wireless Operators (article / table) for the September/October, 2005 issue of Broadband Wireless Business Magazine.
My hat is off to Tim for undertaking this effort, particularly that he apparently did it in exchange for freelance writing wages. In compiling these lists and trying to keep them reasonably up to date for the Broadband Wireless Internet Access Service Providers blog, I know how hard it is to not only get this data from the service providers themselves, but 1) try to actually find them, and 2) "equivalize" the data you get given that they all use different ways to measure what should be the same metric, such as coverage area. I doubt Tim will attempt this again :-) Although it is definitely worth doing, it would take significant resources such as a dedicated staffer (a summer intern could easily be trained) and some funding.
